Introduction
Has the historically high inflation hit the cruise industry? Of course it has! I’ve been scanning Carnival’s cruises to see what is easily affordable, and those cruises are hard to find. Even if I look at the older ships, they’re still higher than pre-pandemic. I’m saying this based on from what I ‘recall’, but I would have to pull previous invoices to see if I’m correct. I just know what I consider easily affordable, and those deals aren’t there. But, I did find one port and ship that hasn’t changed significantly since I first started sailing. It’s the 4-day cruise from Jacksonville, Florida on the Carnival Elation. It was my very first cruise. Luckily we found the invoice for that cruise to do a price comparison from 2006 to 2025. I realize it’s 2024 as I’m writing this, but March 2024 has already come and gone so I pulled the price for March 2025.
Now, Carnival Cruise Line, known for its lively atmosphere and affordable pricing, has been a favorite among cruise enthusiasts for decades. As of March 2025, the price dynamics have evolved significantly since 2006. This article delves into the price evolution, historical context, and key differences between the original Carnival Celebration that was my very first cruise and the Carnival Elation since the original Carnival Celebration isn’t in existence. The Carnival Elation is now the cruise ship going out of Jacksonville, Florida. Let’s see compare the ships to explain the cruiser experience and then see what the price difference is and determine if it’s still a good deal. We sure need a good deal, especially now!

Price Analysis: 2006 vs. 2025
In March 2006, a four-day cruise aboard the Carnival Celebration from Jacksonville, Florida, cost $853 for two people, inclusive of port taxes and fees.
By March 2025, the same itinerary on the Carnival Elation costs $1038. This increase prompts a closer look at the numbers:

-
- Percentage Increase: The price increased by approximately 21.69%.
-
- Inflation Adjustment: Accounting for an average annual inflation rate of 2.49%, the 2006 price of $853 would equate to approximately $1329.01 in today’s dollars. This indicates that, relative to inflation, the actual price in 2025 is significantly lower than expected, suggesting Carnival has managed to control costs effectively.
Is It Still a Good Deal?
Considering the inflation-adjusted price, the 2006 cruise would be approximately $1329.01 in today’s dollars, while the actual 2025 price is $1038. This suggests that Carnival has managed to keep their price increases below the rate of inflation. This makes the 2025 cruise not only a good deal but also an attractive option for budget-conscious travelers seeking a fun and affordable vacation.
Conclusion
While we found a relatively good deal on the Carnival Elation, the cost of cruising on Carnival has significantly increased, even from pre-pandemic prices. You may find a better deal on the Norwegian if you compare apples to apples. Here’s a link to my article:
